Associate Pastor of Engagement and Outreach

ABOUT MISSIO DEI CHICAGO

Missio Dei Chicago is a church made up of congregations rallying around the singular vision of joining God as He makes all things new in the city of Chicago. Each congregation is committed to making disciples of Jesus in its context by intentionally engaging the holistic needs of their neighbors and neighborhoods. Missio Dei is a neighborhood focused, elder led, missional church in Chicago. Each neighborhood congregation has its own budget as well as elders and leadership team that care for the spiritual direction of its people and make every effort to see people follow Jesus. Missio Dei holds to the essential Christian doctrines as best expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. 

ROLE SUMMARY 

This person will report directly to the Missio Dei Wrigleyville Congregational Lead, working closely alongside to lead the congregation towards its vision, mission, and values. An ideal candidate would lead out of a rootedness in Jesus that propels them to be an activator in the community. Our desire is to see this role holistically engage our congregation with an outward lens and trajectory. Not only is there a desire to see outreach opportunities encouraged and fostered, but also significant work cultivating and championing an environment that is safe and inviting for new guests, as well as encouraging, equipping and healthy for active members of the community. There are also opportunities for preaching and leading in other areas, depending on passion and gifting.

QUALIFICATIONS

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Congregant Engagement (40%)

  • Encouraging volunteer opportunities, activating and organizing teams, developing team leaders, while calling people into active participation in the life of the body, especially in planning and helping to run Sunday worship services. Facilitating assimilation from first time visitor to long-time partner.

Outreach (40%)

  • Lead our outreach efforts across the neighborhood including areas of justice, evangelism and mercy ministries.

Discipleship (20%)

  • Pastorally care and disciple people within the congregation.  This could range from one-on-one mentorship meetings to study sessions, depending on the needs of the community and the discernment of the staff team and elders.

This person will report directly to Missio Dei Wrigleyville Congregational Lead, working closely alongside her to lead the congregation towards its vision, mission, and values. An ideal candidate is passionate about Jesus, loves children of all ages, and is hospitable. He or she deeply desires to invite families into the life of the church through fun, creative, and engaging Sunday services and special events for the families, and by leading as an equipping, encouraging resource for parents. This work can’t be done alone and will include identifying, raising up and multiplying leaders to champion the MD Kids vision of partnering with parents to show and tell the good news of Jesus to our kids.

QUALIFICATIONS

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sunday gathering (80%) 

  • Curriculum, structure, support, safety
  • Team training, development, encouragement
  • Host / welcome to families (especially new families!)
  • Currently birth through 5th grade; desire to grow to birth through 18yrs

Family Ministry Initiatives (20%)

  • Child dedication
  • Family engagement (ex. family fun nights, park playdates)
  • Special events (ex. Christmas events, Vacation Bible School)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This position is a part-time, 60 hours a month, with a salary based on experience. The targeted start date is August 2021. While this position is currently part-time, our dream is for this role to grow into a full time position focusing on all children from newborn to high school graduate.
