Formations

Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.  - 2 Cor 13:11, NLT

We believe that everyone is on a journey of faith, becoming ever more mature as participants in the way of JESUS. We are being conformed into the image of CHRIST by the power of the SPIRIT, in the context of the church, for the sake of the world. With Scripture as our guide and the SPIRIT as our HELPER, we can learn, practice and embody the way of JESUS in our everyday lives. Together at Missio Dei Wrigleyville, we will supplement our discipleship with FORMATIONS, a new series of training where we’ll engage the head, the heart, and the hands.

Each Formations track will run for 4-8 weeks on Sundays from 12-1:30/2:00 pm, led by various leaders within our community.  Sign-ups will be made available for each track as they come about.  Come by yourself, with a friend who’s curious about JESUS, or with your entire gospel community to be shaped and formed in the way of JESUS with the family of Missio Dei Wrigleyville. Brief descriptions and time frames are provided below:

Life in the SPIRIT

We will explore who we are in light of the new covenant, as people united with the Triune GOD through HIS SPIRIT.  We will explain and experience GOD’s power alive in us, with opportunities to not only learn about our giftings, but also practice what we have learned in a supportive and equipping environment.

Financial Stewardship

Everything belongs to GOD and HE graciously entrusts HIS people with the care, development and enjoyment of all of it. We will provide a biblical  framework for managing financial resources and helping individuals grow in confidently practicing faithful stewardship in the modern economy.

On Mission

We will talk through the nuts & bolts of evangelism, with practical equipping on how to share your faith in a secular context.  Our conversations will include specifics on sharing your faith with agnostics, atheists, Muslims, etc. to prepare us to talk about JESUS in a way that has personalized meaning to the people we encounter.

Foundations

We will explore the core tenets of Christianity.  We will study the timeless creeds of our faith - the orthodoxy which have defined us as Christians throughout history - and seek to understand the importance of those things which we hold as foundational within our faith.

Wired

In addition to understanding how GOD has gifted us through the SPIRIT, we also grow in our effectiveness as disciples as we understand how HE has wired us as individuals.  This series will compile a mosaic of trusted tools such as Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, Strengthsfinders, APEST and Attribute Profiling to better understand how our wiring shapes our behavior and contribution to the church.

Following JESUS in Chicago

We will consider what it means to be a disciple in our post-Christian, urban context.  We will share the unique pressures we face in living out our faith within Chicago, and support each other in our quest to follow JESUS within the culture around us.

Reconciling Relationships

As a community of faith reconciled to GOD in CHRIST, we are free to live out redeemed and reconciled relationships. We will look at how CHRIST redefines and reshapes our relationships: friendships, marriages, singleness, dating, work, and parenthood.
