ASSOCIATE PASTOR

ABOUT MISSIO DEI CHICAGO

Missio Dei Uptown started in 2014 as a church plant of Missio Dei Chicago. Missio Dei Chicago is a church made up of congregations rallying around the singular vision of joining God as He makes all things new in the city of Chicago. Each congregation is committed to making disciples of Jesus in its context by intentionally engaging the holistic needs of their neighbors and neighborhoods. Missio Dei is a neighborhood focused, elder led, missional church in Chicago. Each neighborhood congregation has its own budget as well as elders and leadership team that care for the spiritual direction of its people and make every effort to see people follow Jesus. Missio Dei holds to the essential Christian doctrines as best expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

ROLE SUMMARY

This person will report directly to Missio Dei Uptown Congregational Lead David VanWinkle, working closely alongside him to lead the congregation towards its vision, mission, and values. An ideal candidate would passionately love Jesus and be equipped to help lead a diverse church in one of the most unique neighborhoods in Chicago. We are looking for a spirit led leader and collaborator who is energized by working with people from a variety of backgrounds. A strong ability to build a discipleship culture as well as recruit, train, and empower people to live on mission is required. Furthermore, a passion for justice and for those on the margins is desired. Our desire is for this role to grow into a full-time position and for this person to eventually pursue eldership and join our elder team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience in an urban church context preferred.
  • Agreement with Missio Dei Chicago’s Statement of Beliefs and Bylaws

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • DISCIPLESHIP (40%)  – Build strategy, develop and teach courses, and equip leaders to implement discipleship vision and goals.
  • OUTREACH (40%)  – Lead our outreach efforts across the neighborhood including areas of justice, evangelism and mercy ministries.
  • RELATIONSHIPS (20%)  – Pastorally care and disciple people within the congregation.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Hours: Part time from 15 to 30 hours based on situation
  • Salaried Position based on experience

A strong ability to lead worship, organize worship services, and train others is required. This role is part-time. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed bachelor’s degree and experience in urban church context preferred.
  • Agreement with Missio Dei Chicago’s Statement of Beliefs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • WORSHIP LEAD – Lead our congregation in Sunday worship 3 times each month.
  • LEADERSHIP – Recruit, train, facilitate practice and empower worship leaders and musicians at Missio Dei Uptown. Take responsibility for the worship environment and culture on Sunday services. Plan and implement worship team meetings and care for team members well. Provide musical direction and vision for the worship team, incorporating diverse styles of worship and encouraging team members’ development. The individual will also help make staff and leadership decisions for all of MD Uptown. 
  • ADMINISTRATION – Help organize Sunday services with congregational lead. Schedule and communicate with worship leaders and musicians while working closely with sound, graphic, setup and teardown teams.
